History:

Early Origins: The site’s history begins around 1225 with a motte-and-bailey structure in a swampy area known as “Gebrook.”
Fortified Manor (1250): A fortified manor house replaced the earlier structure, laying the foundation for the castle’s future development.
Strategic Expansion: Due to its strategic location in the Duchy of Brabant, along crucial trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen, and Cologne, the castle underwent several expansions throughout the centuries.
