Conversano Castle (Apulia), a thousand-year-old Norman fortress, although over the years the manor has been transformed into a stately home. Built by the Normans around 1054, Conversano Castle was for a long time an important manor house used, as typical of the Middle Ages, for defensive purposes. Trapezoidal in structure, the fortress has been modified and remodeled over and over again, so much so that its use was then also shaped by its transformation into a stately home. Its present appearance, is the result of the different uses that the Conversano castle has seen in its history. Time has not marred its beauty; built of limestone, the fortress still has a large cylindrical keep dating back to the 14th century, a dodecagonal bastion equipped with battlements for the gun ports, and three massive square towers, the master tower of which is from the Norman period and stands on megalith walls, which in some sections are still visible.
