Perched on Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle served as the powerbase for the Campbells of Glenorchy. Built in the mid-1400s, it housed the Campbells for 150 years before transforming into a garrison stronghold post the 1689 Jacobite Rising. Notably, it boasts the oldest surviving barracks on the British mainland. The five-storey tower house, lower hall, courtyard, and barracks showcase its diverse history. Abandoned by the late 1700s, Kilchurn Castle stands as one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, offering breathtaking views over Loch Awe.
