Crispy Amish Onion Fritters Straight from the Oven

Ingredients:

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Directions:

  1. Place the thinly sliced onions in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Pour the milk and lightly beaten egg into the dry ingredients, stirring until a thick batter forms.
  4. Add the sliced onions to the batter, tossing until they are evenly coated.
  5. In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  7. Fry the fritters for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the fritters from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Sprinkle the Amish Onion Fritters with chopped fresh parsley for garnish, if desired.
  10. Serve the fritters hot as a delicious appetizer or side dish.
