Crispy Amish Onion Fritters Straight from the Oven
Ingredients:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Directions:
- Place the thinly sliced onions in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour the milk and lightly beaten egg into the dry ingredients, stirring until a thick batter forms.
- Add the sliced onions to the batter, tossing until they are evenly coated.
- In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of the onion batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the fritters for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fritters from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Sprinkle the Amish Onion Fritters with chopped fresh parsley for garnish, if desired.
- Serve the fritters hot as a delicious appetizer or side dish.
