Aphrodite Statue
In Greek mythology, the Goddess with the widest influence is Aphrodite. Because it touched everyone, especially the gods and goddesses. She is the only goddess depicted naked in Greek mythology. Aphrodite has had two helpers since the moment she was born. On the left side is Eros, representing love and affection, and on the right side is Himeros, representing desire, lust and desire. Eros is depicted on the left side because the heart is on the left side of the human body.
Aphrodite’s most important feature is her beauty. She is beautiful, but she is unfortunate. She is married to Hephaestus (the god of fire who produces weapons and armor), who is considered the ugliest god. Unhappy marriage brings with it forbidden relationships. He has forbidden relationships with gods such as Aphrodite, Ares, Hermes and Dionysus. One day, the beautiful man falls in love with Adonis. Aphrodite’s former lover Ares becomes jealous of this situation. He collaborates with Artemis, the goddess of hunting, wilderness and chastity. The goddess of chastity decides to punish the lovers. He sends a wild boar to attack Adonis during the hunt, and Adonis is seriously injured. Aphrodite runs to Adonis with white roses symbolizing love, but blood is mixed with love. White roses are stained with blood and become red. This is why love is symbolized with red roses.
It is estimated that the statue found in Selçuk, İzmir dates back to the 2nd century AD.
