In Augsburg, Germany, there is one of the oldest working-class neighborhoods in the world.
It is the Fuggerei, a series of houses intended to be rented to the destitute since the 16th century.
Since 1521, to live in one of these houses, one has had to pay one Rhenish florin a year, or 0.88 cents, and dedicate three prayers a day to founder Jacob Fugger.
In order to reside in this particular neighborhood, one must abide by specific rules, namely those of being Catholic, a native of Augsburg and destitute.
The neighborhood also has its own wall system that closes at 10 p.m., so those who live there must observe curfews.
