Roncolo Castle, a medieval castle nestled in Trentino-Alto Adige in the community of Renon, is renowned for its vast collection of frescoes portraying various aspects of noble life and culture. This earned it the epithet, “Illustrated Manor.” Located not far from Bolzano, this castle is perched on a rocky outcrop which inspired its name as the castle was originally known as Runchenstayn in 1237. It overlooks the Talvera stream at the gateway to the Val Sarentino and is situated on the border of the Renon municipality. Notably, Castel Roncolo has maintained its medieval aura in contrast to many other castles in Alto Adige that have undergone extensive modern transformations.
